Gainesville Community Jazz Band presents Cool Autumn Jazz-A Benefit for The Gainesville Community Food Pantry on Sunday,October 28th at 3:00pm at Grace at Fort Clarke United Methodist Church,9325 Newberry Road, Gainesville,FL. Accompanying GCJB on vocals is Pattie Glenn. We ask that attendees please help this worthy cause by voluntarily contributing at least one can of food upon admission.

CURRENT OPENINGS
 
Experienced Jazz Pianist - Requires ability to improvise extensively and read music.  Must provide own portable equipment (keyboard & amp) for most perfomances and rehearsals.
 
GCJB Jazz Band has several exciting gigs scheduled over the next few months where we are likely to need substitutes.  Please contact Marco Thomas regarding interest in performing with GCJB Jazz Band to inquire about other possible openings.

About GCJB Jazz Band:


Formed in the Summer of 2007, the GCJB Jazz Band is a 17 piece jazz band that plays a wide range of big band styles such as traditional swing, dance, latin, and contemporary jazz. If you share our deep passion for jazz and have a commitment to presenting quality performances to the Gainesville area, GCJB Jazz Band is the group for you. This is a great group to be part of and plays lots of gigs around the area. Rehearsals are Monday evenings from 7 - 9 pm at Grace United Methodist Church or on ocassion at an alternate location provided by our lead Trumpet player, Paul McReynolds. About GCJB Jazz Band's Director, Marco Thomas:

 

Marco Thomas began his professional music training at Florida Southern College earning a Bachelors of Music Education while studying under Director of Instrumental Studies and Director of Jazz Ensemble, Dr. Brian S. Brink. He was also a student of world renowned jazz composer and trumpet player, Nat Adderley (Work Song). Marco was awarded a Masters in Music Performance in Trombone from the University of Florida studying under Dr. Arthur Jennings and played with the UF Jazz Ensemble while there. 

 

Marco is a past member of the Atlanta-based African American Philharmonic Jazz Orchestra.  Currently he performs with several groups around the area and has published recent articles with Instrumentatilst Magazine.
